AAP Minister Raj Kumar Anand's Residence Raided by ED in Prolonged 23-Hour Operation

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) continues to face challenging times as former minister and Patel Nagar MLA Raj Kumar Anand resigned from the party and his ministerial role on Wednesday evening. Anand, who has accused the party of corruption, stated that he could not agree with the party's stance on the issue.

Anand's resignation comes in the wake of last year's extensive search operation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at his residence. Prior to ED summoning Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in the liquor scam case in November, the agency had conducted raids at Anand's residence. The ED's team had searched 12 locations, including Anand's official residence in Civil Lines, suspecting involvement in hawala transactions and customs evasion.

These raids were part of a larger investigation into money laundering allegations against the Delhi Cabinet minister and AAP leader. The 23-hour long operation by the ED spanned various locations across Delhi, based on a complaint filed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The DRI's complaint, which caught the court's attention, alleged over 7 crore rupees in customs duty evasion and false declarations in import transactions linked to international hawala operations.

Anand has been under suspicion of participating in hawala transactions—a form of illegal money transfer—and the ED raids were also seen in connection with customs cases. The extended search operation at Anand's residences and other premises was part of a meticulous investigation by the ED, aimed at uncovering the financial improprieties allegedly tied to the former minister.

The recent political turmoil and the prolonged ED investigation underscore the increasing scrutiny faced by AAP leaders regarding financial misconduct. The resignation and the ED's actions signal a continuing saga of legal and political confrontations for the party, as it grapples with allegations of corruption and internal dissidence.
