Bombay High Court Imposed Rs 50 Lakh Penalty on Patanjali Ayurved Ltd.

The legal battle between Patanjali Ayurved and Mangalam Organics Ltd is centered around a trademark infringement dispute related to “Patanjali Aastha Kapoor Cone” camphor product. It is a matter of unauthorized and illegal selling of the product, i.e., ‘Patanjali Aastha Kapoor Cone’. Previously in August 2023, the Bombay high court constrained the company from selling the product, as Mangalam Organics Ltd accused the company of the intellectual property rights infringement in the matter of its flagship product, i.e., camphor.



In intellectual property Act, owner can reserves their ideas and creations through copy right and patent right. Trademark infringement can be of any service/product/activity which is registered in Act of Trademark, it may be logo, symbol, design, word and technique. The Bombay high court observed that Patanjali Ayurved Ltd was continuously breaching of the ad– interim order.


Ranjneesh Mishra, director of Pantanjali Ayurved Ltd has admitted to supplying camphor products at Patanjali Mega Store in Virar, despite order passed by Bombay High court on 30 August 2023.The company was also selling the product through its website. The high court regarded this action of the company as the contempt of the court and stated, "Such persistent breach of the injunction order by Patanjali cannot be tolerated by this court,". The one judge high court bench imposed Rs 50 lakh penalty on Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. The company issuded an unconditional apology for its actions.


Mangalam Organics Limited is a listed in stock exchange manufacturing base company which supplies camphor, resins and sodium acetate product. This is not the first case on Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, in the past, The Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority, on April 15, issued an order suspending the manufacturing licenses of 14 products of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd and Divya Pharmacy. As per order Patanjali withdrew all misleading advertisement from social media, website and television. The court is hearing a petition filed by the IMA against Patanjali advertisements that attacked allopathy and made claims about curing certain diseases. It has reserved an order in the misleading advertisements case.
