Delhi Court Grants Bail to AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan in ED Case

Amanatullah Khan

A Delhi court has granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan in connection with a case registered against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Khan, accused of irregularities in Delhi Waqf Board appointments, secured bail after furnishing a personal bond of Rs 15,000 and one surety of the same amount.

The federal probe agency had recently filed a complaint against Khan for failing to join the probe in a case related to alleged irregularities in appointments in the Delhi Waqf Board and leasing of its properties. Khan appeared in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court today in response to a summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate and was granted bail by additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra. The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 9.

The complaint against the AAP MLA was registered under Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, read with section 63(4) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, for non-attendance in compliance with Section 50 of the PMLA, 2002.

The money laundering case against Khan was based on an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and three complaints filed by the Delhi police.

The central agency has alleged that the 50-year-old legislator from the Okhla Assembly seat acquired significant proceeds of cash through unlawful staff appointments at the Delhi Waqf Board. He allegedly used the ill-gotten money to invest in real estate assets under the names of his associates.

Earlier, on March 1, the Rouse Avenue court had rejected an anticipatory bail plea of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan in a case related to the purchase of a property worth Rs 36 crore in the Okhla area, allegedly at his behest. A charge sheet had already been filed against four accused individuals and one firm.

The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that Rs 100 crore worth of Waqf properties were illegally leased out, and 32 contractual employees were appointed in the Delhi Waqf Board during Amanatullah Khan's chairmanship.
