Lalu Prasad Yadav Faces Trial in Fodder Scam Case: CBI Court Proceedings Underway

In a significant development, the trial of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the infamous Fodder Scam case is ongoing at the CBI court in Patna. This high-profile case involves a total of 44 accused, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is also the Supreme Leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The trial has already seen the deposition of 76 witnesses.

The Fodder Scam case, dating back to 1996, implicates Lalu Prasad Yadav, R.K. Rana, Phoolchand Singh, Naukarshah Bank Julius, and former MP Jagdish Sharma, among others, on charges of embezzling funds meant for cattle fodder. Notably, 22 individuals involved in the case have passed away, leading to the closure of their trials.

While Lalu Prasad Yadav has already faced convictions in some related cases, the proceedings for Case No. 63A of 1966 are still underway. This case pertains to the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 46 lakh from the treasury of the Bhagalpur and Banka districts on the basis of fake documents.

The next hearing in this case is scheduled for September 27th in the CBI's Special Court. Lalu Prasad Yadav is expected to be present during the hearing, although security arrangements have not been disclosed for safety reasons.

Additionally, former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav is set to face trial in the "Land for Jobs" case, with the CBI obtaining clearance from the central government for legal action. This case, which dates back to his tenure as Railway Minister, necessitates approval from the Home Ministry for prosecution. The CBI has also requested permission to initiate cases against three other railway officials, which is currently pending approval and expected within a week.
