Lawyers Walk Out as Delhi Court Allows CBI to Argue Framing of Charges

Delhi Court

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court witnessed dramatic scenes as defence lawyers representing various accused in the Delhi excise policy case walked out after the bench allowed the CBI to argue on the framing of charges, despite opposition.

The CBI, scheduled to argue on charges, faced objections from defence lawyers citing a recent court order. Advocate Rajat Bhardwaj referred to an order stating that proceedings should halt if new arrests or supplementary chargesheets occur.

K Kavitha’s counsel requested the court to address the application seeking to defer arguments before proceeding. However, the court decided to continue, prompting multiple defence counsels to walk out as the CBI counsel began.

The judge expressed astonishment, remarking it was her first time witnessing such conduct in her career. Despite defence explanations, the court ordered the CBI to submit documents, including witness statements and evidence, by May 7, when the hearing will resume.
