The Supreme Court chastises a judge for refusing to release an accused notwithstanding a bail order

By -

Despite the Supreme Court's ruling directing his release, a judicial officer refused to release an accused against whom a FIR was filed under sections 498A, 304B of the IPC, and section 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. While the judgement specifies the accusations under Sections 304B and 498A, IPC, it does not mention Sections 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, the Judicial Officer refused to release the accused. The accused was granted bail after the bench was informed that the charge was under Sections 304B and 498A of the IPC and that the appellant had been in detention since October 2020. Counsel further claimed that the charge sheet was filed in December 2021, and that only one witness had been interviewed so far, despite the prosecution citing 64 witnesses.
