The Factories Act does not take the place of any other statute and does not supersede the Indian Penal Code: Punjab & Haryana High Court

In a case where the use of non-updated machinery resulted in the death of two workers, the Punjab and Haryana High Court found that the provisions of the Factories Act, 1948 are supplemental to any other Act and hence do not override the provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
The court, led by Justice Vinod S. Bhardwaj, noted that a review of the Factories Act's statement of aims and reasons reveals that the provisions are concerned with working conditions and worker protection, but that the Act does not preclude the application of any other statute.
