Prophet Row | The Calcutta High Court has ordered the West Bengal government to assess the situation on the ground and summon central forces before the situation spirals out of control.

The Calcutta High Court, in a judgement dated June 15, reaffirmed that the State authorities must assess the ground situation and, if necessary, deploy central paramilitary forces before any loss of life or property occurs.

A bench led by Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj was hearing a slew of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petitions seeking the deployment of central paramilitary forces in West Bengal in the wake of ongoing protests against offensive remarks made against Prophet Mohammed by former BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal.
