The Bombay High Court ruled on Friday that the compensation obtained when the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd acquires a property is not subject to tax deductions.

A plea by Seema Patil, who owns various plots of property in Bhiwandi, Thane, was heard by a panel of justices SV Gangapurwala and MG Sewlikar. In October 2019, the railway company agreed to buy the land from Patil, but subtracted income tax from the payout.

The business is working on a project to build a bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The corporation has now been ordered by the court to reimburse the landowner for the sum they deducted.
