The Kerala Government has issued an order requiring a monthly stipend of Rs. 3,000 for young lawyers in the State, which will be a major comfort to the junior advocates practising throughout the State.
The aforementioned stipend is open to attorneys under the age of 30, as long as they have fewer than three years of legal experience and annual revenue of less than Rs. 1 lakh. The yearly income cap does not, however, apply to people who are members of Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes.
The Trustee Committee's suggestion served as the foundation for the order's issuance.
The Kerala Government authorised a monthly stipend of Rs. 5,000/- for junior attorneys of a specific category in an order dated March 9, 2018, which was to be paid from the Welfare Fund established by the Kerala Advocates' Welfare Fund Act, 1980.
However, a petition was filed in the Kerala High Court asking for aid for lawyers affected by the Covid-19 problem, citing a lack of proper implementation of the same.
