Last week, a landmark event was held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where distinguished judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, along with public representatives, made the right choice to opt for public transport instead of their conventional vehicles. The event titled ‘No Car Day’ was presided over by Chief Minister Pushyamitr Bhargava and aimed at promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly transport in the city.
Judges, lawyers, and community representatives who participated in this initiative sent a strong message to the public on the importance of reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality. As agents of power, their actions set an example for the general public.
On September 22, the streets of Indore witnessed a spectacular display of devotion by District Court judges who cycled to the court. This event not only demonstrated their commitment to the project but also symbolised their collective efforts towards a common goal. It served as a reminder to all citizens that even small lifestyle changes can have a huge impact on the environment. Beyond the symbolism, the ‘No Car Day’ initiative also had a practical purpose.

The whole Madhya Pradesh city of Indore observed "No Car Day" on Friday, resulting in thousands of stranded vehicles throughout the city. The effort was started by the mayor, who invited dignitaries to investigate several modes of transportation, including high court justices and elected officials.
High court justices, attorneys, mayors, and public representatives rode two-wheelers to work, but many officials and collectors elected to take city buses. Both the Municipal Corporation Commissioner and the District Court justices utilised bicycles to get to the court. The Madhya Pradesh High Court's Indore division had already sent out a message to its staff recommending that they refrain from driving on World Car Free Day. Judges, attorneys, and members of the district bar association are also covered by the notification, and they are requested to show their support for the cause by forgoing the use of automobiles.
The World Car Free Day will be observed on September 22, 2023, as stated in the notice, to encourage everyone to support the "No Car Day campaign" in the Indore area by using two-wheelers, bicycles, or public transportation instead of cars. On that day, I went. In Indore, where the city celebrated World Car-Free Day on Friday, many notable residents and government officials could be spotted riding two-wheelers or using public transportation.
