In 1990, V P Singh proposed a constitutional change to provide for 5% or 10% reservation for economically disadvantaged citizens without regard to caste. The economically weaker section (EWS) is a sector of Indian society that is unreserved and have a family’s average annual income of less than 8 lakh rupees. This group covers those who do not come within the ST/SC/OBC caste categories and do not already benefit from reservation.

On Tuesday, October 3, the Bihar government announced a 10% reservation for members of the economically disadvantaged (EWS) in the state’s judicial system as well as in government-run law schools and universities. This declaration came shortly after the state’s caste survey’s initial data release. According to an analysis from the news agency PTI, the choice was made during a cabinet meeting that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar chaired finished.

Extremely Backward Communities (EBCs) make up 36.01% of the population, and Backward Classes make up an additional 27.12%, per the data. The population of the State is made up of 63.13% members of the rest of the backward classes (OBC), that includes both EBCs and Backward Classes.

Particularly, the Patna High Court ruled because the State’s decision to conduct the caste survey was genuine, that it started with necessary competence, and that it had the legal purpose of promoting development while upholding justice. According to Siddhartha, the state government has authorised the construction of 100 veterinary hospitals. There will be the construction of 100 top-notch veterinary hospitals around the state. In addition, every one of these hospitals will have training facilities. In 17 districts, Rs 225 crore will be spent on this, according to Siddhartha, as reported by PTI.

The EWS certificate can be used to obtain the 10% reservation to the GEN-Economically Poorer Section for post-secondary education and government positions in India.
